Excellent analysis! I watched my husband play the whole campaign and I've just reached the western zone, myself. I've been struggling with not hating Wuk Lamat, but as the story drags on, I'm despising her more and more. She has too many negative traits and only 1 positive one. She's dumb, clumsy, has a weak stomach, and does that cringy over-acted cheer thing all the time. Her one positive trait is talking to people ... apparently? I swapped to Japanese voices to see if it helped and it didn't. It's just the writing. I was so glad to go to the western zone and be rid of her for a little bit. Looks like I have to suffer through the second half of the game with her, too.
I didn't mind the first few zones of having no agency because, hey, my character is on vacation. He's not here to work, he's here to sit around the campfire and roast marshmallows while that dumb furry goes out and gets spit on by alpacas. I'm here for relaxation. But once the work starts in the second half, that's when I start getting annoyed. My only agency in this storyline has literally just been when I hunt for aether currents.
I'm counting on the patch content to redeem Dawntrail, because by and large, the patch stories are better than every single expansion by far.
I won't spoil anything, but I will say that so far the story in the Arcadion raid - as well as the fights themselves - has been quite entertaining. It's just the sort of dumb fun we were promised.
A WWF style tournament arc, where Yoshi-P himself voices the announcer in the Japanese language version. It's good fun, and even the normal mode versions of those fights have some teeth in them.

I see more Tumblr jokes about the raid than anything about the whole MSQ. A tournament arc? Sign me up!
