I think a big part of that is his stories rarely have to do with him as opposed to being more about the Picts. It's why I consider “Kings of the Night” and “Worms of the Earth” the two best BMM stories; they're the two where we actually get into his POV, follow him as a character, and feel some stakes beyond the broader exploration of a fading people.
Makes sense, I found the one time I tried WotE somewhat boring also, but haven’t tried Kings of the Night I think or if I did I don’t remember. But Red Shadows, the Kull stories and the Conan stories I remember quite well.
I find myself surprised that Howard never wrote of the Amerinds in his books. He's a son of Texas, home to the Comanche and Apache.
I'm going to have to find the CMM books and read them.
Won't lie I've always struggled to get into Morn. He's the one character I find somewhat tedious to read, unlike Kane, Kull and Conan.
